Pre-Conference Workshops

Hobsons University Pre-Conference sessions offer both training courses and consulting workshops, which are designed to promote product knowledge, best practices, and sharing of innovative techniques.  Whether your institution has been a user for a few months or years there are pre-conference sessions to aid in increasing your product knowledge and successful utilization. The sessions are designed for varying levels of product knowledge and experience from beginner to advanced. Training sessions are lead by Hobsons Training Specialists and follow a traditional training format with specific topics, structure, and learning outcomes. Consulting sessions are lead by Hobsons Consultants and follow a workshop format where the consultant will facilitate the topic discussion, and include time for peer-to-peer collaboration.

Application Management

Life on the Road: A Snapshot of a Travel Season

Last school year, Hobsons conducted a survey of college admissions counselors to see how they spend their time on the road. Learn the results of that survey, including number of high school visits per day, distance traveled, events attended, hot topics, and thoughts on how prepared students are for the college conversation. Also, get a peek into life on the road, including the most popular hotel brands, restaurants, and the best way to network. Hear what advice those in admissions have for high school counselors as well as best practices and tips for life on the road. This session is great for both sides of the desk and is structured to encourage dialogue and share tips to create successful partnerships.

The different forms available in Radius have benefits or drawbacks depending on the circumstances. It’s important to know which one would fit best for specific situations. Does an event require registration payments? Will different follow-up notifications be sent to those who attend and those who choose not to attend? Learn from the University of Tennessee of Chattanooga, as they share best practice methods found to get the most out of data collection.


Checkmate! Boosting Apps to Admits

In Fall 2016, Boise State implemented a data flow from the SIS (Peoplesoft) to Connect of student’s checklist items. This helped to create communications within the solution using email, text messaging, and the telecenter to communicate with students who are still missing items for admissions. This has increased the Applicant to Admit yield nearly 10%. It also contributed to finding processing errors, customer service calls, and reduced data entry from multiple transcripts that are not needed. Learn more about their success story.

The Persona Project

The best decisions are informed by data, but data mining and customer research seem more the purview of large firms selling consumer goods, not small, private New England colleges. Wouldn’t the right students simply find the best-fit college for them? Albertus Magnus College will share how its Marketing and ITS departments collaborate with Hobsons to develop Prospective Student Personas to identify the most successful students and tailor messaging and outreach efforts to find more. The discussion will include answering the following questions: Is data important? How much data is enough? What story can the data tell? How can data help target enrollment efforts?

At Kutztown University, many academic areas were reaching out to current and prospective students by using postcards and personal email. By consolidating the manual processes and making them automated Kutztown created consistent marketing messaging, eliminated duplicate communication, streamlined processes, and increased the prospective student pool. Enrollment Management

Student Engagement with Radius and Starfish

Kentucky Community and Technical College System is using Radius and Starfish for statewide Express Enrollment Campaigns to increase enrollment. Express Enrollment week is an event to help prospective and returning students with one-on-one advising regarding enrollment, financial aid, scheduling and other items for the upcoming term. Events and sites are developed in Radius to track registrations and activity. Students are sent virtual postcards as well as contacted by enrollment specialists to register for the event and to ask questions. Once these students are enrolled, they are entered into Starfish. Lastly, instructors, advisors, and retention specialists begin monitoring the students’ progress to assist them in being successful and completing their educational goals.
